Data Scientist

Are you a talented and self-motivated data scientist? Do you want to be among the first to access novel medical data and drive the translation of an established metabolic biomarker technology to widespread healthcare use? We’re looking for both junior and senior data scientists (bioinformaticians, computational geneticists, statisticians and epidemiologists) to join Nightingale’s Research Solutions team, where you will work with blood biomarkers and genomic data from the world’s largest biobanks.

What you'll do

Nightingale’s biomarker platform was recently selected for profiling all 500 000 blood samples from the world's largest health database, the UK Biobank. Data scientists at Nightingale will have access to these data during an exclusivity period, providing a treasure trove of scientific opportunities. You will work in a team of data scientists and scientific consultants, and with our customers consisting of world-leading epidemiologists. You will conduct scientific analyses related to applications of Nightingale’s widely acclaimed biomarker service for blood and urine profiling (e.g. biomarker discovery and disease prediction). A prime focus is to extend applications for Nightingale’s biomarker profiling beyond heart disease and take part in translating the cutting-edge research to relevant patient settings.

What we're looking for:

We’re looking for a person who excels in data analysis and has a strong interest in biomedical research as well as bio-business. You’re a target-oriented and proactive personality with strong teamwork skills, as well as enthusiasm to work outside your comfort zone. Motivation to form customer relationships with medical researchers is a must. We also value:

  • Experience with scientific publishing as part of (under)graduate studies
  • Track record in data visualization for science communication inside or outside of academia
  • Good knowledge of molecular biology, genetics or clinical medicine
  • Experience in epidemiology or other biomedical research

Our perks:

  • Meaningful, pioneering work that offers you the opportunity to constantly develop your skills
  • Unique opportunity to work in a multidisciplinary team of data scientists, medical doctors, developers, designers and biotech business experts
  • Access to unique biobank data sets for world-class research and publications
  • Impactful work in the fast-growing health industry with no translational gap
  • Flexible and informal working environment
  • Competitive salary
  • Full fringe benefits for health and wellbeing incl. massage, commuting, sports and culture
  • Premium health insurance
  • Quirky team get-togethers
  • Interest clubs from running to music (we have an in-house band!)

The full-time position is based in Helsinki and available immediately.

Nightingale in brief

Nightingale Health is one of Finland’s fastest growing biotech companies with over 70 team members and customers in 20 countries. We develop pioneering solutions that focus on active prevention of chronic diseases such as cardiovascular diseases and diabetes. We reveal unique molecular insights that are invisible using standard technologies. The broader visibility allows us to predict the future risk of a person developing a chronic disease. Knowing the risk means having the ability to make a positive impact on health. We believe that rather than solely treatment, health should be about keeping people healthy. We’re also a bunch of lovable, welcoming people with a sense of humor and an ambitious attitude.
