A new publication on metabolic profiling of fatty liver featuring our technology has just been published. The research was issued in Hepatology, the leading scientific journal focused on liver disease.
The study identifies numerous blood biomarkers for the presence of fatty liver in young and middle-aged, apparently healthy individuals. Many of the metabolite biomarkers were found to be as strongly predictive of fatty liver disease as plasma levels of liver enzymes, the currently used blood biomarkers for fatty liver disease. The findings suggest that our biomarker panel may help to identify people who should undergo more extensive scanning for fatty liver.
Most interestingly, metabolic biomarker disturbances were observed in blood samples measured 10 years prior to the diagnosis of fatty liver. The results suggest that the adverse biomarker levels preceed the actual onset of fatty liver disease.
