In this cross-sectional study of 580 young Finnish men, reseachers investigated whether serum metabolites that are associated with cardiometabolic disease risk are also associated with aerobic fitness and maximal muscle strength.
According to the results, aerobic fitness accounted for more than an additional 5% of the variation of 25 serum metabolome measures that are associated with a reduction in cardiometabolic risk. Some of the metabolites were mechanistically linked with body fat percentage. High maximal muscular strength was not similarly associated with such beneficial metabolite levels.
