This study examined the lomg-term effects of weight loss and subsequent weight regain in healthy, normal weight individuals.
Study comprised of three time points: at baseline, at the end of weight loss period, and at the end of weight regain period. Following the weight loss period, the results showed significant reduction in visceral fat mass, decreased low-grade infammation, and an increase in functionally important anti-atherogenic high-density lipoprotein -associated metabolites. This effect was observed even though these values were already at favourable levels in these participants. Following the weight regain period, most of the observed beneficial changes in visceral fat and metabolic profiles dissipated.
