The genomic architecture of blood metabolites based on a decade of genome-wide analyses

This study aimed to expand our understanding on how much genetic variants contribute to the variation in fasting blood metabolic measures using twin-family cohort (N=5,117).

Study revealed significant differences in SNP-based heritability and the proportion of heritability captured by known metabolite loci among different classes of lipids and organic acids. To conclude, common genetic variants have a significant effect on metabolite levels. The study elucidates the genetic architecture of metabolite classes and lipid species.
