Effect of Metformin on Metabolites and Relation With Myocardial Infarct Size and Left Ventricular Ejection Fraction After Myocardial Infarction

In this paper, metabolically profiled ST-segment-elevated myocardial infraction (STEMI) patients were randomly assigned a 4-month course of metformin or placebo control.

Results support high-density lipoprotein (HDL) triglyceride concentrations as a predictor for post-MI Left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) and infarct size (ISZ). Metformin treatment was found to increase alanine levels and reduce phospholipid content in very large HDL particles.
