Inflammation, especially measured with GlycA, has been reported to predict higher risk for cardiovascular diseases.
This paper aimed to assess the role of IgG glycosylation traits on traditional risk factors for CVD and on presence of subclinical atherosclerosis in addition to GlycA. 76 IgG glycosylation traits were measured in 2970 women from the TwinsUK cohort. The measures were correlated to their estimated 10-year atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease risk score. Eight IgG glycan traits are associated with the 10-year atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease risk score. This finding was replicated in an independent study, and 6 of the 8 glycans were also associated in men. A linear combination of IgG glycans and GlycA was associated with presence of carotid and femoral plaque.
