In this paper, researchers aimed to determine if glycoprotein acetyls (GlycA) is associated with hearing status.

Nightingale's metabolomics assay was used to measure GlycA in the Longitudinal Study of Australian Children cohort comprising of 1169 children and 1316 parents. GlycA was associated with poorer hearing by mid-childhood. This finding potentially reframes hearing loss as a life-course condition with inflammatory antecedents common to other non-communicable diseases.
